SUNSTORE 3, Additional application
The project shall demonstrate a heat pump seasonal storage connected to the upcoming 35.000 m2 solar plant in relation to Donninglund Fjernvarme. EUDP has in 2009 granted 12. mio. kr. to the project. A necessary geographical move of the storage has led to additional costs and EUDP has therefore granted further support.
In SUNSTORE 3 PHASE 1 detailed design of a heat production plant with 25.000 m2 solar collectors, 60.000 m3 pit heat storage and 3 MWheat heat pump has been carried out. Further geotechnical investigations showed unfortunately, that the place where the pit heat storage was situated has a large content of silt. This combined with a high ground water level would cause extra excavation costs of 5 mio. dkr. plus a high risk of accidents. Another place in the same area was investigated too, but with same result.
Dronninglund Fjernvarme thus had to find a new place for the storage and thereby also for the solar collectors. This has been found in an abandoned gravel pit. New geotechnical investigations has now been carried out, and the plant has been redesigned before a call for tender took place in August 2010. The result of the tendering process was higher prices for the innovative parts caused by the change of site. Therefore this additional application has been elaborated.
