Energy Reduction of street lighting

The goal within 5 years is to implement the developing technology in street lights equivalent to 15% of the market potential created by EU Regulation 245/2009. The regulation concerns replacement of the mercury and incandescent bulbs before 2015 and will result in replacement of minimum 200.000 luminaries alone in Denmark. The market implementation of 15% leads to a possible energy saving of about 28,65GWh/year equivalent to a CO_2 reduction of about 12.764tons/year. This results in a economic saving about 22,92mio DKK per. year. Based on the development of luminaire 1, the project consists of two consecutive luminaires whose function and complexity gradually increases. The goal of the luminaire 1 is to reduce the energy equivalent to an energy efficient better than the energy efficient of metal halide fixture. The luminaire 1 will primarily be used at residential street. The luminaire 2 is an development of the luminaire 1 with an additional energy reduction. The LEDtechnology is integrated into intelligent solutions adapted to the relevant scenarios. The use of the luminaire 2 will be at residential and larger motorized streets. The focus in the luminaire 3 will be a additional energy reduction compared to the luminaire 2 through system solution based on communication among the several fixtures and to relevant systems. The use of the luminaire 3 will primarily be at larger motorized streets, crossroads, roundabouts etc.

Results

The purpose of the project is to develop street lights to the public space by using the technology of LED. By correct use of this technology the dependence of the fossil energy and thereby the CO_2 can be decreased. The obtained energy reduction will result in the LED-technology is competitive compared to existing solutions in the total investing period
