IEA Industrial Energy Related Technologies and Systems (IETS) 2009-2010 - Danish participation

Through participation in the executive committee and a number of annexes in IETS, comprising 13 countries, Denmark has contributed to developing technologies for energy-efficiency enhancement in industry. Focus has been on process integration, separation processes, biomass gasification, green chemicals, industrial integration of CO2 separation and life cycle analyses.

Results

Beeing a small country it is important for Denmark to cooperate and exchange knowledge with other coun-tries. This is one of the main reasons for Danish participation in IEA-IETS. It is important that research in-stitutes and private companies working with industrial energy technologies participate in such relations. Despite the small size of the country Denmark has gained a strong position in industrial energy technologies which has also been reflected in the positions in IEA-IETS, where Denmark at moment occupies the Executive Committee chair and working as annex manager for the separation system annex. IETS currently has 7 ongoing annexes. 1. Annex IX - Energy efficient separation systems 2. Annex X- Energy efficienct drying and dewatering 3. Annex XI -Industry based biorefineries 4. Annex XII - Membranes 5. Annex XIII - Industrial heat pumps 6. Annex XIV - Process integration in the iron and steel industry 7. Annex XV - Industrial Excess heat recovery (under opstart) Denmark is well represented especially in annex IX og XV. Currently new initiatives with strong Danish interests are underway. This includes ideas about Heat recovery in SME’s, Energy efficient process con-trol, Industrial LCA methods and Waste Incineration. Currently the following institutes/companies are involved in IETS: • Weel & Sandvig • Enerdry • DTU kemiteknik • Teknologisk Institut • Grontmij Carl Bro • DTU Mekanik • Cool Partners Aps • Advansor A/S DTU Kemiteknik is participating with its industrial consortium CAPEC, which among others include No-vozymes, FLS automation, Akzo Nobel and Danisco.
