Development of improved 2G bioethanol technology to prepare for commercialization
One of Dong Energy's subsidiaries, Inbicon, has developed a technology that manufactures bio ethanol from non food sources, such as wheat straw. A demonstration plant is made in this purpose. Markets' competition is harsh, therefore the aim of the project is to maintain Inbicons' leading position in this technological field by reducing the heavy production costs.
Inbicon has developed a technology to produce bioethanol from non-food sources, such as wheat straw, and presently a demonstration plant is under construction. However competition is fierce and the objective of this project is to ensure that Inbicon's technology will keep its lead in the field. Therefore, to bring the technology closer to commercial stage the following four tasks are pursued: 1) development of cost reduction methods for a full scale plant with a capacity of 50t/h biomass, 2) development of a continuous rather than non-continuous feeding system, 3) development of a system for recycling of enzymes to reduce costs, and 4) reduction of environmental impact by reducing water consumption and CO2 emission
