Project description

The aims of the project are to carry out combined socio-economic and corporate-economic analyses of concepts for bioethanol production in Denmark. The project is split into two phases and will in total analyze 3 different plant concepts for bioethanol production based on biomass inputs comprising straw, grain, manure and domestic waste. Main focus is put on two promising new plant concepts where Denmark in particular has basic knowledge and competence. Furthermore, existing bioethanol production plant concepts based on grains only are included in the analyses as reference systems. The two new plant concepts are characterized by synergistic production of: Bioethanol co-produced with CHP (Combined Heat and Power) (IBUS concept). The biomass inputs to the process are straw, whole crop, biomass residues, domestic waste etc. By-products from the production are used as animal feed, fertilizer, and solid fuel. Bioethanol co-produced with CHP and biogas (Risø-DTU concept). The biomass inputs to the process are straw, whole crop, biomass residues, domestic waste etc. By-products from the production are re-circled to agriculture as welldeclared fertilizer products. These two concepts will be analyzed and compared based on the same input biomass materials. The present project information concerns phase I of the total project, and comprises the socio-economic and corporateeconomic analysis of bioethanol production co-produced with CHP (IBUS concept)

Results

Due to difficulties in achieving data, consistency in data, and consensus on data as expected and agreed in the project outline among the project partners, the project unfortunately could not be carried out to its original intention. As consequence, only the limited project reporting from phase 1 of the project is available. The project report from Ocotber 2007 was published in March 2011
