Technology clarification regarding controllable socket outlet

The controllable micro-mechanical switch, the micro-switch or the capacitative networks switch (KNK) was invented in 1994/1995 by NRC/MIC. This was based on LK wanting to manufacture electrical installation systems, where the control takes place distributed to the individual outlets.

Project description

In other words, the KNK switch may be identified as a central component in the development of new intelligent installation systems, in connection with expansion and further development of the existing IHC programme. Patents have been applied for in various countries (PCT) in respect of the basic manufacture- and function principles of the KNK, as well as a number of application possibilities. LK as apperas as the owner of the patent. The further development KNK which has also taken place under the auspices of NRC has resulted in more experience. For example, it appears obvious to an increasing extent that switches of the KNK type - but to a certain extent based on other specificiations - also have very attractive technological and commercial features in relation to various other applications. These applications can typically be found in the field of power-conversion. The work invovled in electronic control of the micro-switch has thus demonstrated quite new possibilities for improved control as well as miniaturization of traditional relays. International patents for these principles have been applied for in 1997 in the form of two additional basic patent applications, popularly named 'three-terminal minirelay' and 'intelligent relay control'. Moreover, a patent application for a new design principle (H-beam) is being prepared at present. This principle separates actuation and contacting, whereby material and geometry may be individually optimized. Whatever direction(s) to be followed, various development jobs need to be done, such as prototype development etc., before a mass production can be initiated. However, already known production technologies can be used for this purpose
