Further to Elforsk project 337-008, a hydrocyclone pilot plant with a capacity of 8 m3 potato juice per hour was tested at two potato starch factories in Karup and Brande. The 2007/2008 campaign saw some clogging problems at the plant in Karup where electricity savings of 32% were achieved. In the following 2008/2009 campaign, the plant was moved to Brande Kartoffelmelfabrik where it was fitted with a shear pump for potato juice homogenisation before separation in the hydrocyclone plant. Electricity savings of 54% were achieved, and at the same time, the hydrocyclone plant was able to recover more starch from potato juice. (Energy 10)
