Modular structure of power electronic converters in the power range 1-10 kW
This project has included a PhD course at Aalborg University (AAU) and the Technical University of Denmark (DTU)/University of Southern Denamrk (SDU) and it has developed two types of converter which can increase the voltage from small-scale electricity production (fuel cells and photovoltaics) from 20-60 V to 400 Vdc. A modular galvanically isolated converter has been made at DTU/SDU with three units of 3.3 kW, a total of 10 kW, and an efficiency of 98%. A modular converter has been made at AAU with units of 500 W and without galvanical isolation. Efficiency here was measured at 97.6%. It is not possible to increase output without reducing efficiency. Therefore the modular design is suitable because it is possible to increase the output area and retain high efficiency. (Energy 11)
