Wind profiles and forests
To acquire better knowledge about wind conditions in forest areas, where more and more wind turbines are located on a global scale, the project will analyse existing data measured above the forest, perform field experiments with a laser-based method and develop models for shifts in roughness of terrain and in efficient height of terrain.
Two technically challenging field experiments were performed in Lille Bøgeskov near Sorø and at the edge of the Tromnæs forest on Falster, respectively. By creative use of the first remote-sensing wind lidar prototype, it was possible to investigate the spatial structure of the flow in more detail than with traditional in-situ instrumentation on masts. The measurements were/are used to test and improve the parameterization and application of wind flow models.
