New methods for removal of soot and NOx

Afdelingen for Brændselsceller og Faststofkemi
The project aimed at developing an electro-chemical reactor to remove soot and NOX from diesel exhaust gases.
Project description

The project will develop an electrochemical method for removing soot and NO_x from exhaust gases and flue gases. The method can prevent use of reducing agents and can be applied independently of motor operation to save approx. 5% of the energy consumption. The price will be reduced markedly of precious metals can be avoided.

Results

The project produced porous cell stacks by applying tapecasting and lamination. It also proved that such cell stacks can be used to remove NOX. The project further determined that more development work is needed to enable the porous cell stacks to remove NOX in oxidising conditions. Finally, the project determined that cell-stack porousness must be improved to prevent filter clogging during operation.
