Reduced energy consumption for basic ventilation in heavy process industry
Lab tests have shown that the need for basic ventilation in foundries can be reduced by removing flue gases as close to the source as possible. These results have subsequently been confirmed by tests at foundries. Much energy can be saved by designing the suction funnel and screening correctly, and the potential would be even greater if passive injection is used in the cooling section. Annual energy consumption can be reduced by 30-50%, corresponding to some 16 GWh of electricity and 80 GWh of heat. The results were operationalised in a calculation program, which can be downloaded from the Danish Technological Institute at http://87.54.37.121/dimair.
