Biomass dust firing constitutes a significant risk due to corrosion of boiler walls and super-heaters. The project exposed corrosion probes in Blok 2 of the Amager Power Station and Avedøre Power Station, while biomass was fired either alone or combined with oil and gas. Various materials were exposed. Depending on the material content of Cr and combination of fuels, duplex corrosion layers or chromium oxide was formed. Most probles indicate a parabolic corrosion rate. Co-firing of biomass with oil and gas reduces the corrosion rate. Exposure at higher temperatures showed greater tendency for corrosion layers and ash to interact, with Cr being leached.
