Wind power and large scale heat pumps for district heating in Århus
The project explores the possibilities for a combination of wind power and a large heat pump for heat production in the district heating system of Århus. The environmental and economic impact – for both the district heating system in Århus and from a social economic perspective - are calculated for a large heat pump either connected directly to wi
Analyses and calculations – for instance the Balmorel model - show that short term marginal heat generation costs are too high for heating pumps compared to alternative heat generation technologies in Århus; partly due to high electricity taxes and prices. Furthermore, electricity taxation supports heating pumps directly connected to wind power, while a grid connection of both wind turbines and heating pumps would be preferable from a socio-economic perspective. This would also enable the heating pumps to deliver regulating power to the electricity system, which is expected to provide important economic benefits to heating pump operation. (Energy 10)
