IMPROSUME: The impact of prosumers in a smart grid based energy market
The Improsume project investigates “prosumer” behavioural responses to playing a balancing role in the electricity system and test different methods to influence these responses. In WP2, we focus on prosumer business models and identify stakeholder preferences, and in WP3, we model the relationship between the prosumer and the market.
Project description
The Improsume project investigates “prosumer” behavioural responses to playing a balancing role in the electricity system and test different methods to influence these responses. In WP2, we focus on prosumer business models and identify stakeholder preferences, and in WP3, we model the relationship between the prosumer and the market.
Results
We study prosumer responses to playing a balancing role in the electricity system and test methods to influence these responses (WP1). WP2 focuses on prosumer business models and stakeholder preferences, and WP3 models the relationship between the prosumer and the market. The principal focus is on prosumers, their future role in the market and the collective influence they could muster (WP1). Readiness, barriers and contingencies for adopting the prosumer role are studied with an online survey in three countries, a field experiment involving 400 private households in Denmark, and test trial and interviews with 120 SMCs in Denmark. We will also suggest new and revised business models (WP2), focusing on small- and medium-sized commercial electricity consumers and aggregators. This research uses a state-of-the-art methodology for data collection and analysis (interviews and online Adaptive Choice-based Conjoint experiments).Based on system dynamics and advanced operation research (WP3), we create simulation models to study effects affecting the future market. We will define design criteria that can be applied both in the Nordic energy market, in Europe and beyond. Cause-effect scenarios at multiple levels including the high, medium and low voltage market are developed.
