Oxy-fuel combustion for below zero CO2 emissions
The purpose of this project is to investigate oxyfuel combustion of biomass and biomass-coal mixtures in semi-technical scale and supplemented by laboratory experiments and process simulations to reveal any technical challenges of the process.
Project description
The purpose of this project is to investigate oxyfuel combustion of biomass and biomass-coal mixtures in semi-technical scale and supplemented by laboratory experiments and process simulations to reveal any technical challenges of the process.
Results
Regarding the fundamental combustion characteristics, the project has not identified disqualifying characteristics of oxyfuel combustion. However, the increased levels of CO2, H2O, CO and SO2 will increase the risk of corrosion. It is possible to retrofit an existing plant for oxyfuel combustion, but the technique is most suited for new plants.
