The purpose of the project is to recycle phosphate from ash stemming from mono-incineration of meat and bone meal, manure fibre or sewage sludge. These ashes are rich in phosphorus and may after processing replace conventional P fertilizers.
Project description
The purpose of the project is to recycle phosphate from ash stemming from mono-incineration of meat and bone meal, manure fibre or sewage sludge. These ashes are rich in phosphorus and may after processing replace conventional P fertilizers.
Results
Phosphate is the key to feed the global population and a scarce resource. Ashes from sewage sludge, manure fibre and meat and bone meal contain phosphate. The feasibility of burning manure fibre for energy production has been examined. An ash-based fertilizer product meeting agronomic and environmental requirements has been developed.
