Project description

Wave energy, Lever Operated Pivoting Float LOPF, study of new taut moored buoy concept with direct electrical output. The study will cover: Basic evaluation and theoretical optimisation of the LOPF concept, design of scale models for tank testing with data aquisition, regular/irregular wave tank testing with direct electrical power take off reading in real time and final reporting.

Results

The power production has been measured in real time on a well instrumented wave energy LOPF buoy in scale 1:25, in Aalborgs deep water wave tank. A full scale LOPF buoy for North Sea operation in 16 kW/m will produce 610 MWh per year, based on a 60% generator efficiency. This is very promising for this simple and affordable wave energy concept.
