Manual tar measurement method
In connection with thermal gasification of solid biomass, the pollution level of the gas must often be determined. Undesirable components in the gas may include solid matter (particles, salts, soot), liquid (drops, fog) and a wide number of organic components, jointly referred to as tar. The project performance tested a GC analysis method in ten European laboratories. Results are still incomplete, but the gravimetric tar analyses have attained far greater reproducibility.
