Gasification project EPZ in the Netherland
It has stringent emission limits for SC2 and NOx and produces a certified fly-ash. Based upon the above starting points and constraints the project was specified as follows: 1) Fuel: 150,000 tonnes per year of chipped demolition wood. 2) Intermediate fuel storage for a long weekend. 3) Atmospheric circulating fluidised bed gasifier (85 MWth). 4) Gas cooling for steam production; steam system is integrated with the existing unit Amer 9. 5) Baghouse filter; applications for the (contaminated) fly-ash are being looked for. 6) Scrubber mainly for ammonia removal. 7) Gas preheating and burning of the gas in the boller of Amer 9. 8) Efficiency from wood to electricity more than 35%. The project has demonstrated the technical and economical feasibility of the concept. The impact of the wood gasification on the performance of Amer 9 is almost negligible. During the project period stable production was only obtained during shorter periods (days) due to several technical problems, primary with gas cooling and gas futers. Essent has subsequently (after termination of the EU project = E2's participation) modified these processes, so the gas now is warmer and the filters are changed to a secondary cyclone, whereby the scrubber is by-passed. The results of these and other actions are not known to E2 at a level for this reporting
