Modular Energy Carrier Concept
The project aims to design and integrate a range extender concept into the modular vehicle platform in the
Qbeak battery electrical car. Hereby, a flexible configuration, clean emission, short refueling time, long range, independence of charging
infrastructure, exploitation of residual heat, high efficiency and a longer life of batteries is achieved.
The purpose of the project is to overcome five big obstacles for mass deployment of Electric Vehicles (EV) through introduction of a modular energy carrier concept with a fuel cell based range extender running on methanol. By doing so, the concept achieves:
- Refueling time less than 3 minutes
- Range of up to 800 km
- Cabin heating independent of the battery
- Efficiency higher than 80%
- Significantly longer battery lifetime
Main acitivities:
- Development and integration of a dedicated FC system for an EV
- Tests of the vehicle in a controlled environment
- Test and trial with professional users in a living lab.
The goal is to document the technical, economic, political, environmental and social viability of using methanol fuel cell range extenders. Tangible goals include:
- Development of HTPEM FC module suitable for automotive applications
- 1-3 vehicles equipped with a methanol FC with heat utilization
- Calculation of necessary investment for country-wide infrastructure.
The FC technology will allow ECOmove to expand to heavier vehicles for logistics or longer distances. Serenergy will be able to approach other OEM's in order to develop solutions to them. Insero E-Mobility will position Denmark as the hot spot of EV technology.
