Aluminium Solar Collectors for District Heating
The project will develop and demonstrate two types of solar collectors with aluminium absorbers in
coorperation with the two largest Danish manufactures of solar collector plants. Thus Hydro Aluminium will
get access to the solar district heating market. The solar collectors will be demonstrated in full scale
combined with a hybrid heat pump.

collectors will be delivered by the two largest Danish manufactures of solar collector plants for district
heating. The manufacturers will achieve a better product and Hydro Aluminium will get access to the solar
district heating market.
The solar collectors will be demonstrated in full scale combined with a hybrid heat pump at Løgumkloster
Fjernvarme.
The project consists of 4 work packages:
Work Package 1 includes optimising of the two aluminium solar collectors and detailed design of solar
collector circuits, where the solar collector field is expected to consist of 2 x 6000 m2 aluminium solar
collectors and 2 x 1000 m2 traditional solar collectors. The collector circuits will be connected in parallel
making it possible to compare the collector productions. Beside that WP 1 includes detailed design,
tender and contracts for all other parts of the demonstration plant including a hybrid heat pump.
In Work Package 2 a demonstration plant including 14,000 m2 solar collectors and a hybrid heat pump will
be implemented.
Work Package 3 includes measuring program and implementation of a real time control of solar heat
production and online alert for changes in liquid in the solar circuit.
Work Package 4 includes final report with a design manual for aluminium solar collector fields for district
heating and dissemination of the project results to district heating utilities and authorities in Denmark and
EU27.
