Dissemination of research results in Denmark and internationally – IEA ETDE
Participation in IEA’s agreement Energy Data Technology Exchange (ETDE) contributes to disseminating
Danish energy research and development through ETDE World Energy Base. Furthermore, a web-portal
will be created with easy access to Danish energy reports and other literature to strengthen the
dissemination of Danish R&D both in Denmark and abroad.
The main objective is to disseminate the results of Danish energy research and development through easy
and free access to reports and other literature published by Danish institutions and companies.
The objective is achieved through
• continuing the participation in the IEA agreement Energy Technology Data Exchange (ETDE) and fulfilling
the obligations of this agreement. The obligations include delivering data on Danish publications to the
database ETDE World Energy Base – ETDEWEB, which is a tool for disseminating Danish energy
research. Danish membership of the ETDE agreeement also provides access for Danish industry and
research institutions to publications within energy R&D from other countries
• further strengthening the dissemination by providing free and easy access for everybody worldwide to
Danish R&D results. This is achieved through a web portal with information about reports and other
literature. The web portal will be a tool for the industry and research institutions in both Denmark and
abroad for finding results of the R&D that is carried out in Denmark, and thus the portal contributes to
promote contact to Danish industry and research institutions.
Denmark has participated in the IEA ETDE agreement since the beginning in 1987, and the Danish data
management system, which has been used for delivering correct data to ETDE’s database ETDEWEB, is
now obsolete and has to be replaced by a new system. Therefore, a new data collection and management
system must be created in order to be able to continue delivering data on Danish energy literature to
ETDEWEB. However, the new system will not only be an internal it-system for data collection and delivery.
The new system will also become the basis for a web portal providing direct access to publications. The
web portal will be free to use and accessible to everybody worldwide through direct searching in the portal
and by making the portal’s data accessible in Google and other web search engines.
At ETDE's executive committee meeting in May 2013, it was discussed whether there is a basis to continue with the current concept of the database ETDEWEB. The reason was that several members had withdrawn from the ETDE Agreement. The meeting participants agreed to continue with a different and cheaper model of an information system - a web portal with access to energy information around the world – provided that a minimum of 8 member countries will participate. At the end of June 2013 Mr. Aksel Beck, EUDP/DEA, and the project management met to discuss whether Denmark should participate in the new model. EUDP/DEA decided after the meeting that Denmark will not participate in the new model and thus not renew the current ETDE agreement, which expires at the end of June 2014. Access to ETDEWEB will continue for a number of years.
This situation means that the task of establishing a new IT system milestones M1-M3 ) is not carried out, and that the project is actually completed by January 31, 2013, where the activity concerning recording of publications stopped in agreement with Mr. Aksel Beck. The practical work of providing information about Danish energy literature to the database ETDE World Energy Base (ETDEWEB) is completed as planned in 2013. Based on monitoring of what is published in Denmark, 437 publications were registered with summaries and keywords in English.
