IEA-DHC Annex TS1. Low Temperature District Heating for Future Energy Systems
The project is the Danish participation in the planned task shared annex, TS1,in IEA-DHC:Low
Temperature District Heating for Future Energy System. The objective of the Danish participation is to
contribute to an international development of low temperature district heating based on renewable energy
for supply of heat to energy efficient buildings.
The project is the Danish participation in the research project "Lov Temperature District Heating
for Future energy System" organized by the International energy Agency's District Heating & Cooking
Programme, IEA-DHC
The objective of the Danish participation is to contribute to an international development of lov
temperature district heating based on revewable energy for supply of heat to energy efficient buildings
(new and renovated). Focus will be on solutions of generic problems (design methods and technologies for
handling peak loads and critical temperatures in space heating and domestic hot water systems) that may
form the basis for new standards.
The work plan is to:
• Apply the outcome from the previous EUDP project (IEA-DHC Annex X: 4th generation district heating) to
characterize the low temperature DH supply techniques and identify solutions for generic design problems
to facilitate its implementation to different communities
• Analyze the technical challenges to supply the built-up area with renewable energy.
• Develop solutions for network extension and solutions to effectively use energy sources according to its
quality.
• Identify the solutions to inhibit the growth of Legionella bacteria to safely supply low temperature domestic
hot water.
• Explore the 100 pct renewable energy based optimal energy supply structure with the synergy between
low temperature DH supply and building energy reduction.
