UserTEC - User Practices, Technologies and Residential Energy Consumption

The building sector can deliver large energy savings, yet lack of user understanding and accept is a limiting factor. UserTEC studies various users’ response to building technologies in order to better adjust new building technologies to the users' needs, making technologies more acceptable and more easily adopted and thereby achieving even higher energy savings.
Project description
The construction sector has been identified as the sector with largest potential for energy savings. Yet in spite of great technical progress, a large part of the savings is left wanting. This is due to the resident’s lacking understanding of the technical functionality of the buildings. Therefore, the future energy efficient technology has to meet the user’s needs. This requires deeper understanding of different user types. The purpose of UserTEC is to: 1) Identify, develop and test various typologies for users; 2) Explore user practices and comfort when introducing new technology into buildings; 3) develop and test user adapted technologies and; 4) investigate different strategies for implementation and policies regarding user aspects of energy efficient buildings. In this project, a team of researches traversing across a broad field will study data on households’ energy consumption.
