Full-scale demonstration of pressure cooking and anaerobic digestion of deep litter.

The project focuses on a full scale demonstration at the biogas plant Ribe Biogas of the practical and financial feasibility of using deep litter as a substrate for biogas production by applying a patented thermoalcalic pre-treatment called NiX. The method is based on pressure cooking with base addition and has by previous EUDP-supported projects demonstrated increased degradability of deep litter as well as an ability to remove the major part of the ammonium nitrogen content. The NiX-plant will be integrated into the existing biogas plant where one of three identical digesters will be dedicated to the project thereby allowing for direct and clear measurements of the treatment effects.The project is a collaboration between a number of participants with Xergi A/S as project responsible and Ribe Biogas as the host for the demonstration project. The successful demonstration of the NiX-concept will allow for a massive expansion of the global marketfor biogas, which today is strongly limited by the access to high-value substrates. The target group for the project is all potential investors for biogas plant (energy companies, farmers and private investors).
