Microbiologically safe reduction of hot water temperature
The objective of the project is to demonstrate a new technology that can protect hot water system against Legionella and demonstrate that the systems can be kept Legionella-free even at reduced temperature. That will make low-temperature district heating feasible resulting in considerable energy savings at district heating systems and in buildings.
The goal is to show that hot water systems can be kept free of dangerous legionella bacteria with our new water treatment system irrespective hot water system temperature. We will establish water treatment in 6 different large buildings with central heating systems. Buildings are selected so that they are as different as possible in the application, technology, operations etc.
In the first phase the new technology is demonstrated with the normal water temperature and it is demonstrated that hot water systems are completely free of bacteria.
In the second phase it is demonstrated in the same buildings that they are completely free of bacteria with reduced hot water temperature.
The project´s ultimate objective is the elaboration of installation and operating instructions for use of this technology in buildings with central heating system covering all types of buildings, application, technology, usage patterns, etc.
