Roof unit with PV-panels and built-in ventilation
There is still missing affordable building integrated photovoltaic solutions that architectural adapts the traditionally Danish building´s appearance. The goal is to develop ventilated roof cassettes with built-in solar cells that can be easily adapted to different roof types (brick, cement, asphalt roofing etc.). The built-in ventilation ensures higher efficiency of solar cells.
Since the heat losses from existing roofs are significant insulating of roofs will help reducing the total energy consumption in Denmark. This project can help inventing a complete new insulated roof cassette with integrated solar panels that can be used in both refurbishment and new built houses for the coming years. In recent years, many homeowners have installed solar panels on their roof due to favorable subsidies. It has architectural not always resulted in the best results, so there is a need for new solutions that can be integrated in a good way in the Danish housing stock. The goal of this project is to develop affordable building integrated photovoltaic solutions that can be adapted to different types of roofs (tiles of brick or concrete, asphalt roofing etc.). This will be done through the flexible roof cassettes as with adjustable dimensions and coverings can be adapted to all these types of roofs. The flexible roof cassettes should be prefabricated, insulated and watertight. There should be an easy assembly from on cassettes to another. Built-in ventilators should increase the efficiency of solar cells. If possible the roof cassettes will be made of recycled fiber glass materials from old windmill blades.
