FORIDA TOWERS II - demomstration and further development

To learn how to build the hybrid UHPC tower in praxis and prepare the technology for commercialization. Further development to up-scale the towers to larger heights, to make the towers entirely from UHPFRC and to reduce the use of bar-reinforcement in the tower construction.
Project description
Task A: Demonstration tower on Foridas test site at Gingsholm in Northern Jutland. The wind turbine on Gingsholm that will form the test turbine is already mounted on a traditional tubular steel tower on a foundation prepared for the newly developed Hybrid Tower. The steel tower is going to be replaced by the demonstration tower.
Task B: Up-scaling the tower system from a total height of 94 m to a total height of 140 m Challenges: The second order effects of the tower: Deflections, instability and buckling of the thin walIs.
Task C: Further developing of a tower entirely made of UHPC. Challenges: determination of loads, transition piece from tower to nacelle, deflections, instability, the post tension system and the foundation.
Task D: Extension of the standards used in the design of the 94 m tower. The present design includes bar reinforcement in addition to the steel fibers. This reinforcement is used to meet the requirements for minimum reinforcement and crack distribution in the standard for plain concrete (EN 1992-1-1 and DNV OSS C502). The purpose of this task is to demonstrate the soundness of reducing this reinforcement by taking the effects of the steel fibers better into account.
