Energy efñcient and environmental friendly bottle coolers

Center for køle - og varmepumpeteknik
The goalt is to design, build and test new bottle coolers, which can fulfil the criteria of qualifying the best energy class in the new draft EU energy labelling scheme. The draft scheme requires 30% less energy consumption compared to the present Vestfrost M200 bottle cooler, which is the most energy efficient bottle cooler on the market.

Project description

The project starts with an analysis of the present product and of how to fulfil the goal of the project. This will be carried out in cooperation between the project partners. Each of the following improvements will be simulated in a computer program and the results will be analyzed:

- Use of a new variable speed drive compressor (Bom SECOP) and use of adaptive control of the compressor and the refrigeration system. This will ensure that the refrigeration system works optimally in every situation. During daytime, the refrigeration capacity will be normal. When new warm drinks are placed in the cabinet, the cooling capacity will increase. During nighttime, the
cooling capacity and the electricity use will be minimal.
- Use of new glass doors with less “U-value” and other possibilities to reduce the heat flow into the cabinet.
-Use of state-of-the-art electronic ventilators and LED-lightning
- Use of an adaptive control to reduce light and ventilation in the cabinet in periods with no sale of drinks. The temperature of the drinks is allowed to increase slightly during such periods. Systems are available, and Vestfrost Solutions and Carlsberg already have gained experience with such Energy Management Systems - EMS.
- Other improvements might appear during the project. During the project and after the analysis, the project partners will decide the look of the first prototype and which components to use. The first prototype will be built at Vestfrost Solutions and tested according to EN23953 at Danish Technological Institute. The results will be analyzed and discussed by the project partners. A new prototype will be built and tested and the results will be analyzed. When the results are satisfying, another 10 new appliances (a 0-serie) will be built. These 10 units and 10 conventional units will be placed in supermarkets for a field test. The field test units will be equipped with meters. The data will be collected, treated and analyzed. The use pattem, sales, temperatures and energy consumption will be analyzed. The results will be presented to the project group and later to the EUDP. A paper will be written for an international conference, most likely the “IIR Gustav Lorentzen Conference on Natural Working Fluids” in 2016.
After the project, the new bottle cooler will be commercialized b Vestfrost Solutions.
