Global Team Turbine

Vestas Technology & Service Solutions
Objective of the project is to design, build and test a cost efficient and reliable wind turbine nacelle utilizing belts instead of a traditional gearbox. The partners will design and partly build a wind turbine nacelle including base frame with drivetrain to perform testing with the aim to verify i the technology in a wind turbine prototype.
Project description
The primary objective for the Global Team Turbine project is to design, build and test a wind 2 turbine nacelle utilizing belts instead of a traditional gearbox or direct drive for the transmission of mechanical energy from rotor to generator in a wind turbine. The innovative technology will i provide an enhanced solution in comparison to conventional gearbox solutions as it includes a
simplifed design that reduce the complexity, lower the overall nacelle weight and component costs. lt also includes fewer components and subsystem, and may ultimately reduce the overall cost of energy with 7-1 0 per cent. The project will develop the demands for the technology though design and building a windmill nacelle base frame with a belt gear drive.
