The project will analyse the role of distributed energy storages in future energy systems. The goals are to find more economical efficient integration of renewable energy and to answer the question “What can be the contribution of distributed energy storages to the integration of renewable energies in future energy systems?

Project description

In the project “DESIRE” under the IEA, ECES (Annex 28) the role of distributed energy storages (DES) in future energy systems is analysed. Aalborg University and PlanEnergi are Danish participants and PlanEnergi will be subtask 3 leader.

The project has the following headlines:

Subtask 1: Storage Solutions for the Integration of Renewable Energies.

Subtask 2: Best Practice Examples for DES.

Subtask 3: Potential of Distributed Storage Solutions for the Integration of Renewable

Energies.

Subtask 4: Control Requirements for DES.

In the first two subtasks the different technologies are investigated and categorised. The outcomes from these will be inputs for subtask 3. In this subtask different suitable technologies will be evaluated in terms of their potential with regard to both geographical and quantitative exploitation.

The goals are

a) a more economical efficient integration of renewable energy

b) to answer the question: What can be the contribution of DES to the integration of

renewable energies in future energy systems?

Point (b) is not only important in an international perspective, but will indirectly elucidate to which extent Danish technologies and methodologies will be able to contribute to introduce increasing shares of renewable energy in future energy systems.
