EUDP 12-II,eButler - efficiency of energy consumption

The focus of this project is to develop and demonstrate the energy visualisation system eButler and to address Smart Grid solutions in a new user centered way. The project will demonstrate eButler’s positive impact on reducing energy consumption, strengthen its ability to compete on the marked and smoothen the way for more Smart Grid in the future
Project description

This aim of this project is to develop and demonstrate the software system eButler and the hardware packet Bifrost which together facilitates an integration of data from all energy sources in one visualization system. A successful deployment of Smart Grid requires more than technical innovation. It requires proactive involvement of all society’s energy consumers and hence more knowledge about motivations for taking part in a flexible grid. This will be analyzed through anthropological studies on how the technical possibilities integrate with user practices. During the project eButler and Bifrost will undergo technical development to further strengthen the system. The project has a clear product oriented and commercial focus but will also contribute to extensive and progressive knowledge about Smart Grid technologies in user settings. As part of the comprehensive analysis regarding eButler, the project contributes with a broader, holistic analysis of the consumption related mechanisms when introducing energy visualization and automation technology. The aim is the figure out how to successfully penetrate the private marked and to map out how we in a near future can introduce Smart Grid in a way, where the energy consumers can dynamically and proactively take part in solving key challenges in the energy system.

Results

The objective of the project has been to demonstrate how the energy visualization system eButler can address and change consumption patterns and energy use among two end-user groups: private consumers and public institutions. Focus has been pointed at the strategic application of the system and at which essential initiatives it takes to support a continuous use of the system. A successful application of the system depends on the provider of the systems (utility companies) persistent effort to establish focus and push-activities that can create the ground for real actions at the end-user level and thus incentives for energy sav-ings
