Participation in IBPSA Project 1, continuation of IEA EBC Annex 60 on Modelica (2017-22)

Institut for Byggeri, By og Miljø

IBPSA (International Building Performance Simulation Association) extend work from IEA EBC Annex 60, and further develop new generation computational tools for the design and operation of building and community energy and control system.

The objectives of this project are:

- to contribute to the scientific work within parts of IBPSA Project 1

- to ensure that in the international work Danish interest are considered

- to ensure that the developed tools are applicable under Danish conditions

- to communicate and to disseminate the outcome of the IBPSA Project 1 to the Danish market

Project description

Based on financial support from EUDP during 2012-2017 SBI/AAU has participated in the international collaboration within IEA EBC Annex 60 on development and demonstration of new generation computational tools for building and community energy systems based on the non-proprietary Modelica modeling language. The work will be continued within IBPSA Project 1 - and not within Annex 60 - as the partners find it necessary to work on a platform which gives possibilities for deeper discussions and which have a larger and wider audience that the partners within Annex 60. Currently, a memorandum of understanding is about to be negotiated between IEA and IBPSA.

Through the collaboration within Annex 60 SBI/AAU has contributed to the development and adjustment of the library of models in Modelica so that it fits buildings in Denmark. Also, SBI/AAU has participated in the development of models which are now implemented in the library. It is of significance for Denmark's position within the international collaboration in this field that SBI/AAU is participation in the coming work on further developing Modelica. The library have to be further developed with models which makes it possible to analyze system solutions and community energy systems, so the integrated, robust and performance oriented systems with low energy consumption and low peak load can be achieved.

Referring to "Draft Work plan IBPSA Project 1, May 17, 2016" SBI/AAU will participate in the role as "Organizational participant" and SBI/AAU contribute to the collaboration within WP 1.1 Library for design and operation, WP 3.1 Application and WP 3.2 Dissemination. Modelica and the accompanying library of models will be introduced in courses at Aalborg University. Both in Denmark and internationally, the results of the collaboration within IBPSA Project 1 will be presented at conferences and in journals.
