Development and Demonstration of Advanced Inversion Technology for Optimized Reservoir Characterization - DAITORC

Develop, test and demonstrate a new inversion tool, Direct probabilistic inversion (DPI), concerning improved reservoir characterization in relation to exploration and utilization of geo-energy and storage.
Project description

This application is an alliance between Qeye and GEUS, where a Danish commercial company join forces with a Danish research institute to develop, test and demonstrate a new inversion tool concerning improved reservoir characterization in relation to exploration and utilization of geo-energy and storage.

Direct probabilistic inversion (DPI) of seismic AVO data provides a better definition of the lithological distribution of the subsurface, thus optimizing the reservoir characterization relative to previous methods. In this applied project, we plan to further develop the DPI software with added functionality, as well as test and document the functionality in a range of specific geological settings in the North Sea. The algorithm will give a more precise description of both reservoirs and seals, and thus offer the potential to optimize the utilization of the subsurface in connection with storage of CO2, heat storage and cooling, geothermal heating, and  Hydrocarbon exploration.
