DH Condition Control for Asset Management
The district heating (DH) network in Denmark consists of over 30,000 km pipes of which many are older than 20 years and of unknown condition. To ensure cost-effective ongoing renovation of the pipes and minor loss of water and energy, knowledge of the pipe state is required. Smart meters provide a unique opportunity to utilize a large quantity of data for this Asset Management purpose.
In the project, a method is developed for evaluation of the condition of each pipe in DH networks. The aim is a commercial software product levelled primarily at Danish and European district heating utilities. The product provides DH utilities with information on the ditribution system that makes it possible to optimize renovation activities.
The analysis is based on validated data from meters and data from additional sensors whit high time-resolution. The algorithms use statistical methods implemented in the software which is validated and demonstrated in collaboration with the participating DH utilities.
