IEA SHC Task 63: Solar Neighbourhood Planning
The purpose of the project is to increase utilization of solar energy in neighborhoods. It includes
ST and PV, passive sunlight and daylight in buildings and environment. The scale in the project
ranges from a single housing block, a group of buildings, to a smaller district / area.
Active solar energy integrated in urban context will also enable renewable energy supplies such as
heat and electricity and help cities and citizens achieve sustainable solutions.

Project description
IEA SHC Task 63: Solar Neighborhood PlanningSubtask A: Solar Planning strategies and concepts
Subtask B: Economical Strategies and stakeholders Engagement
Subtask C: Solar Planning Tools
Subtask D: Case Studies and Stories
Main activities:
• Develop strategies for achieving neighborhoods with high solar energy production and use of
passive sun and daylight.
• Integration of photovoltaic (PV) and solar thermal (ST) in buildings and outdoor environment,
including storage.
• Develop business models: barriers, finances, ownership (owner / rental / parts).
• Strategies for stakeholder involvement.
• Building-integration of ST and PV
• Development of tools for planning of solar energy: balancing energy consumption and production,
decision making, visualization.
A case study collection of solar energy neighborhoods will be established. It will be possible to
download all results from the projects afterwards. A Danish website will be established.
