SENSE - Renewable energy systems
The objective of the SENSE project is to develop and demonstrate high power storage systems for stabilization of supply grid for renewable energy sources, and for electrical ferries by the use of the novel Li-ion capacitor cells (LiC).
Project description
The objective of the SENSE project is to develop, demonstrate and commercialize high power storage systems that clearly outcompete current storage solutions. The SENSE grad frequency regulation system (to be developed and commercialized by project leader KKWS) and the SENSE Mega Charger (to be developed and commercialized by PowerCon) will be based on novel, safe, cost-effective and sustainable storage cells that combine the benefits of Li-ion batteries and supercapacitors. The Li-ion capacitor cells (LiC cells) have been developed by the SME partner Beyonder, which will adapt and upscale the LiC cells for the grid frequency regulation system and the Mega charger. The LiC cells will allow to develop disruptive storage systems that surpass competing technologies in terms fo power, safety, energy efficiency, selfdischarge and cost. AAU will contribute to the SENSE project by bringing leading expertise in battery research to ensure high performance and lifetime of the LiC cells.
