Electricity from wastewater
The project tests how and to what extent the waste water from NFS’ users can be converted into electricity.
The purpose of the E-Mill project is to develop and demonstrate the world's first electricity-producing water mill for the waste water grid, the so-called Energy Mill (E-Mill). The concept is based on extensive flow calculations carried out by DTU, while the hardware is developed by Energy Mill ApS with the assistance of, among others, Uponor Infra A/S, BIOFOS and Siemens.
An early prototype has already been developed in an Innobooster-supported project, but is further developed and tested in full scale in the present project, in close cooperation with waste water company Nyborg Forsyning og Service (NFS).
The project tests how and to what extent the waste water from NFS’ users can be converted into electricity.
To ensure smooth and flexible connection to the electricity grid, Energy Cool's aggregation and forecasting solution is further developed and tested with the E-Mill.
The combination of cutting-edge technology, with hardware-adapted application in an aggressive wastewater environment, and state-of-the-art Smart Grid solutions will offer a revolutionary product for the electricity market. E-Mill can both produce cheap renewable energy on market conditions and at the same time help to stabilize an electricity grid, challenged by an increasing proportion of wind energy.
