Digitalization of District Heating: Optimized Operation (and maintenance) of District Heating and Cooling schemes via Digital processes Management

The future digitalization of the energy system is crucial in both the Danish and EU agenda and will enhance district energy systems to optimize the generation and networks’ operations, while improving the control of heating systems inside buildings and empowering the end-consumers. The results from the international collaboration will be conveyed in a practical guidebook and openly accessible.

Project description

This project covers the Danish participation in the international project entitled “DHC Annex TS4: Digitalization of District Heating: Optimized Operation (and maintenance) of  District Heating and Cooling schemes via Digital processes Management” and located under the International Energy Agency Technology Collaboration Programme on DCH including Combined Heat and Power (IEA DHC|CPH).

The aim of IEA DCH Annex TS4 is to promote the opportunities of the integration of digital processes into DHC schemes. Digital technologies are believed to make the whole energy system smarter and more reliable and to boost the efficiency and the integration of more renewables. The purpose of the Danish participation is to contribute to international research and application of digital applications to enable district energy systems to optimize their plant and network operations while empowering the end consumers and to ensure that Danish companies and stakeholders possess the newest international knowledge in the field. This will support development and export opportunities for the participating Danish companies such as Danfoss, Brunata, Kamstrup, Grundfos, GrønEnergi and EMD to an international audience and gain new knowledge from other European countries and participants. The inclusion of Danish DH company Viborg Fjernvarme will ensure that the newest international knowledge is applied to support efficient transition of Danish DH systems to low-temperatures.
