Legionella safety and energy efficiency for installations and supply

Energi og Klima, Installation og Kalibrering

The purpose of the project is to develop a tool for assessing the risk of legionella in domistic water installations and the assess energy and ressource consumption in the fight fagainst legionella. The tool - including a statical assesment of the legionella risk - will be used and demonstrated on two different utility water solutions by disinfection and temperature control in the units.

Project description

Legionella is a rising problem in Denmark and abroad - and is often related to domistic water systems where the control strategy is based on maintaining a high water temperature or establishing supplementary water treatment. However, as domistic water in Denmark is most often heated by district heating or local water-based heating systems, this causes a considerable uncertainty regarding continued energy effeciency based on reduction of temperature of the heating water. This is unfurtunate for the users and the climate, but also for e.g. the export of district heating componenents and solutions.

Technological initiatives are initiated, and work is being done in order to control of the risks associated with the various solutions. The project continues this work and aims at an effective fight against legionella. This will be done partly through development of tools for statistical assesment of legionellarisk as well as energy and resource consumption, partly by evaluating, improving and demonstrating two specific domistic water solutions developed in Denmark and based on legionella disinfection and legionella-safe use of domistic water units.
