Deltagelse i IEA Bioenergy Task 45: Climate and Sustainability Effects of Bioenergy within the broader Bioeconomy

Institut for Geovidenskab og Naturforvaltning, sektion for skov, natur og biomasse

A key goal of this project is to increase the understanding of the environmental, social and economic impacts of producing and using biomass for bioenergy, within the broader bioeconomy. A central aspect concerns the development and application of science-based methodologies and tools for assessing climate and environmental effects of biomass based production.

Project description

The purpose of this project is to ensure the Danish bioenergy sector access to knowledge and information on climate change effects and other sustainability impacts of bioenergy. The purpose is pursued through Danish participation in the global Technology Collaboration Programme (TCP) of the International Energy Agency (IEA), more specifically in Task 45 of IEA Bioenergy.

The purpose of Task 45 in the triennium 2022-24 is to ensure a scientific basis for sound development for bioenergy as an integral component of the overall bioeconomy. One key goal is to increase understanding of the environmental, social and economic impacts of producing and using biomass for bioenergy, within the broader bioeconomy. A central aspect concerns the development and application of science-based methodologies and tools for assessing the effects of biobased systems.

Task 45’s work programme is divided in three work packages (WP). WP1 focus on metrics, methods, and tools for assessing climate change effects of bioenergy, WP2 focus on metrics, methods and tools for assessing sustainability effects, other than on climate change, of bioenergy, and WP3 looks at involving sustainability stakeholders and implementation approaches (governance).

Dissemination is a critical part of this project and WP4 works on transferring knowledge and insights from the IEA Bioenergy network to Danish bioenergy stakeholders in Danish through newsletters.
