HyProFuel Hydroprocessing Sustainable Fuels for Aviation and Heavy Transport
The HyProFuel project will develop technology that converts pyrolysis oil obtained from bio-waste into renewable hydrocarbon fuels by hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) catalysis. Pyrolysis oil production from a wide range of bio sources is already today a commercial technology, and renewable fuels from pyrolysis oil have the potential to replace fossil fuels in aviation and heavy transportation. However, what currently hinders large-scale renewable fuel production is the lack of an efficient down-stream technology that upgrades the complex and unstable oxygen-rich oil into a fuel that meets the strict specifications of modern engines.
