Ny DHI strøm- og bølgerende
The new DHI current and wave flume will be used to support the Danish offshore wind industry by providing test facilities that do not exist in Denmark. The new DHI current and wave flume will be a key part of the validation and optimization requested by the industry when building offshore wind farms and other offshore structures for the industry.
The world is in a transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy. Offshore wind is already today a key source of renewable energy and the importance will only grow in the future. Part of the success has been driven by larger and larger turbines reducing the cost significantly. Today, offshore wind farms (OWF) are moving into deeper water and harsher areas and turbines and foundations become larger. The Danish industry is in a unique position to contribute to the transition, but future growth will rely on the existence and availability of adequate physical model test infrastructure. Currently, the Danish test infrastructure does not adequately cater for testing at the scales demanded. This will pose a risk for the Danish wind industry, both in short and long term. Therefore, DHI A/S plans to close an important gap by building a new wave-current flume that can simulate the most extreme conditions seen offshore for future offshore windfarms, thus supporting the Danish wind industry with high quality data and test results. This will enable them to reduce risk and lower costs of constructions and thus strengthen their leading position in a highly competitive offshore wind market.
