PHESS - Pioneering High-Energy Supercapacitor System

PHESS aims to finalize the development of MacroCaps' patented supercapacitor, establish a number of modular cable-free 1 MW modular rack systems, and conduct tests under real operating conditions. MacroCaps intends to demonstrate a cost-effective energy storage solution that supports renewable energy integration into the grids.

Project description

Denmark has committed to meeting CO2 goals within key sectors such as energy and transportation. This transition requires increased integration of renewable energy sources and improvements to the electricity grid. The PHESS project, a collaboration between MacroCaps and SDU, introduces a groundbreaking supercapacitor solution tailored for frequency regulation and grid stabilization. This technology is characterized by exceptional power density and cost-effectiveness, enabled by an innovative patented design. The project aims to finalize the development of MacroCaps' supercapacitor, establish multiple modular, cable-free high-power rack systems, and conduct tests under real operating conditions. Expected benefits include a pioneering solution for short-term energy storage, expected to significantly contribute to stabilizing the danish and european electricity grids in the future. This will enhance grid stability and promote sustainability. The PHESS project aims to integrate and support a more sustainable energy supply and help Denmark and Europe achieve its ambitious climate goals. Through the implementation of this advanced technology, the grids will become more resilient and capable of handling the challenges associated with an increased share of renewable energy. Additionally, the project will demonstrate how innovation and collaboration can lead to practical solutions that promote transition to a zero emissions energy sector.
