CO2Fix Sustainability and Permanent CO2 Removal: Using geocatalysts to mineralise CO2 and convert waste to a valuable product

The new idea in CO2Fix is that biogenic molecules can act as catalysts to control mineral-water-gas reactivity. This paves a way for fast, permanent conversion of CO2 to solid with no safety risks. Specifically, CO2Fix offers an end-of-life solution for the volumes of waste stone wool that end in landfills each year. Reaction with CO2 produces minerals ideally suited to replace fly ash in concrete. Fly ash, which once came from coal fired energy generation, will otherwise be replaced by cement, more costly and higher in CO2 footprint. The CO2Fix process is well suited for local waste-to-energy plants, thus also reducing transport costs.
