DART The Danish Model for Citizen Engagement in the Renewable energy Transition
In order to reach the political climate target of reducing carbon emissions by 70 % in 2030, the Innomission partnership MissionGreenFuels (MGF) aims to accelerate the renewable energy transition. As stressed in the partnership roadmap from 2021, it is critical to ensure support not only from private companies, public authorities and political stakeholders, but also the Danish civil society. Public and private stakeholders experience substantial skepticism and widespread concern from local citizens and interest groups when investors and developers initiate the establishment of vital technologies in the upstream production of green fuels like wind turbines, solar parks and Power-to-X (PtX) plants. To support the mission, this project will develop a national model for citizen engagement in the transition towards green fuels. In collaboration with key partners and with an interdisciplinary social scientific approach, including law, political science and anthropology, the project will design a model that enhances collaboration across scales. The model will thereby guide stakeholders across the green fuels value chain in creating engagement among local citizens. This will lead to three results: 1) Mitigate time consuming and costly conflicts with local citizens and interest groups, 2) provide an innovative environment for collaboration across the value chain, and 3) open a public dialogue for developing an engaged and democratic citizenship within the renewable energy transition. |
