Realizing high temperature electrolysis stacks for green ammonia production REFORGE
H2 produced by renewable energy (RE) is already needed but costly. Haldor Topsoe has identified a stepping stone approach for a cost-effective introduction of electrolysis in so-called hybrid NH3 plants and other niche markets. Economic analysis shows that efficiency of the electrolysis plant is key for the total plant cost. SOEC is the most efficient electrolysis technology available, but the scale not ready for multi-MW plants.
The current project addresses this; making the SOEC technology scalable and with its superior efficiency make it the preferred electrolysis technology of the future. Systems will be designed in a parallel EUDP project and followed by a demo NH3 plant by 2025
