Concurrently, the ash fraction resulting from the process will be developed into a product of high fertilizer value.

Project description

The project aims at testing the low temperature circulating fluidised bed (PYRONEER) gasification technology as a promising platform for improved utilisation of a variety of low-value and difficult biomass fuels from different sectors of society, with the goal of producing electricity and heat with a high efficiency to increase security of the national energy supply. Concurrently, the ash fraction extracted from the process will be developed into a product of high fertilizer value, thus significantly improving the PYRONEER technology's economic feasibility and sustainability. The project is organized in four closely collaborating work packages: WP1: PYRONEER Gasification - Fuel Variability, Energy Efficiency and Bioash Quality; WP2: Bioash Characterization and Method Development for Removal of Heavy Metals and Unwanted Organic Substances; WP3: Bioash Amendment to Agricultural Soils - Logistics and Handling; WP4: The Market, the Business, the Legislation and the Guidelines. The results of the project will contribute to the further development and commercialisation of the PYRONEER technology and thus significantly improve the utilisation of biofuels in energy production. Furthermore the development of a bioash based fertilizer product will increase the sustainability of the biofuels
