Tests and standards for SSL products - IEA-4E-SSL

The project aims at giving Denmark influence on the international requirements and standards for new energy-saving LED (Light Emitting Diode)-based lighting products and at ensuring that Danish facilities will meet the new test standards.
Project description

The project aims at giving Denmark influence on the international requirements and standards for new energy-saving LED (Light Emitting Diode)-based lighting products and at ensuring that Danish facilities will meet the new test standards. These types of products are also know as Solid State Lighting (SSL) products. This is done by increasing the Danish participation in the IEA 4E SSL annex with expertise in LED technology, photometric measurements and experience with SSL products. The two Danish light measurement laboratories at DTU Fotonik and Delta will be part of a worldwide network of national and industrial laboratories. They will participate ini international measurement campaigns and ensure that Denmark has facilities for test and characterization of SSL products. Monitoring of SSL products and their quality on the Danish market will be performed during the project for use in the IEA collaboration on quality assurance. The result will be a series of ''tools'' for the Danish government and authorities to use in policy measures to promote quality SSL products and it will improve the opportunities of Danish companies working in the field of LED-based lighting.

Results

The project aim was to increase the Danish participation in IEA’s Solid State Lighting, SSL annex with expertise on LED technology, light measurements and experience on SSL products. It should provide influence for Denmark on international demands and standards and secure Danish test facilities to comply with new test standards. The project has done this and gained experience from the other member countries on testing, market monitoring and verification. Two Danish photometry laboratories have successfully participated in the international lab comparison and proven their proficiency on testing SSL products. The gained influence and knowledge on the new SSL test method has been brought to benefit the Danish lighting industry and political promotions of quality SSL products.
