Degradation mechanisms in polymer solar cells

A three-dimensional chemical mapping of active plastic PV cell layers has generated new knowledge of degradation causes for PV cells. Based on the mapping, more stable PV cells were made, which in accelerated conditions (high brightness and high temperature) demonstrated lifetimes in the area of 10,000 hours with an efficiency of 0.167%. The work continues in a DSCR project aimed at increasing lifetime and efficiency and in a strategic network with DSCR funding of DKK 15 million with the objective of optimising the interplay between performance, lifetime and process as a precondition for commercial mass production.
